A new trailer for “Rock of Ages” has just been released – check it out below!
In the hilarious new comedy Wanderlust, over-extended and over-stressed Manhattanites George (Paul Rudd) and Linda (Jennifer Aniston) leave their over-priced micro-loft in the West Village and stumble upon Elysium, an idyllic community populated by very colorful, sexually adventurous characters, including alpha male Seth (Justin Theroux) and free-spirit Eva (Malin Akerman). Surrounded by nudists, a former porn star, and a woman with no boundaries, even in the bathroom, this seemingly refreshing way of looking at things quickly makes George and Linda question whether staying there is the right thing for them to do.
During a press conference at the film’s press day, co-stars Justin Theroux and Malin Akerman talked about working with director David Wain, how much input they had into their characters, how awkward it is to be wearing clothes when you’re surrounded by nudists, how hard it was to keep a straight face (Akerman was the one to break character the most), and how excited they both are for their next feature film, Rock of Ages (Akerman has a role in it while Theroux co-wrote it), due out in theaters in June.
Question: Justin, how did you work on the look for your character, with the hair and beard?
JUSTIN THEROUX: It’s something that happens naturally, out of my face, but not so much out of my head. I had a wig for my hair, and then I had to grow a beard out. Then, I actually had to grow it again. There was a scene that David [Wain] wanted to pick up, right after I shaved it. He said, “Hey, in about a month, we’re going to do this other scene. Can you grow it back?” And, after you’ve lived in Georgia in the summertime with a beard that big, it’s a pain in the ass. I don’t mind a little scruff, but it’s like going to bed with a small animal, like a hamster, living on your face. There were definitely days I wanted to unhook it, but did not.
Do either of you think open relationships like the ones at this commune can work?
MALIN AKERMAN: I don’t think so.
THEROUX: No.
AKERMAN: I think it’s complicated enough to have a relationship and make that work properly. To then try to incorporate three or four more people, or six or seven, is a lot of work.
THEROUX: That’s called being single, or being divorced.
AKERMAN: Moving and shaking it is fine, if that’s your thing, for sure.
We caught up with the lovely Malin Akerman at Bing Bar who is in town for Sundance and performed for the Brita FilterForGood Music Project where she was singing with her jazz band, Malin and the Mystic Cats. Clearly she has a passion for music because she will be in the much hyped Rock of Ages coming out this year.
“I’m so excited for that to come out, it was unbelievable making that fim,” Malin told us. “Just look at the cast! I got to sing a duet with Tom Cruise. It doesn’t get much better than that.”
She told us that it was Tom who particularly blew her away on set:
“It was surreal to do a movie with him! I’ve literally died and gone to heaven. We sing I Wanna Know What Love Is by Foreigner.”
“He is so fantastic,” she raved. “I did a movie with Katie [Holmes] two years prior so I knew him a little bit. He is amazing. He is a man who can do whatever he sets his mind to and do it extremely well. And he’s super positive–I can’t say a bad thing about him. He’s unbelievable.”
Akerman has shot films with tons of A-List actors, but Cruise is on a whole other level when it comes to how he behaves on set:
“It’s crazy how huge of a star he is that he’s so down to earth and actually a real person. He makes effort to get to know everyone on the set from cast to crew, ask about their family, and is just so genuine. He’s a real person. Working with veterans like that you learn so much.”
But it wasn’t all fun and games! During rehearsals, Malin told us she actually injured her duet partner!
“Yes, during rehearsals I totally knocked him in the head! Luckily we both survived to tell the story, and shocker — he couldn’t have been nicer about it!”
Rock of Ages hits theaters June 15, 2012.
The first trailer for “Rock of Ages” has just been released!
“Rock of Ages” will hit theaters on June 1, 2012.
The stunning Swede returned to her Canadian roots – she was raised in Toronto – for the upcoming dark comedy Cottage Country, filmed in the typically picturesque Muskokas that was covered in a dull grey smudge the day Cineplex visited the busy set.
Undeterred by the near-constant rain and freezing temperatures Malin Akerman was all smiles playing the part of demanding Cammie, girlfriend to Todd (fellow Canuck Tyler Labine) who engages in some axe-slinging when plans for the perfect proposal go awry. See? Dark comedy.
While huddled in an upstairs bedroom of the Muskoka cottage where part of the movie was being filmed, Akerman dished about the upcoming Adam Shankman directed musical Rock of Ages where she stars alongside a rock n’ roll Tom Cruise who, she assured us, can really sing and who she described as a “such a goof.”
Malin Akerman was spotted on the set of “Rock of Ages” in Miami yesterday, July 8th. I have just added 16 HQ and MQ photos of her into our photo gallery!
