Smokin’ Swede
Ever since her revealing turn in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle as Freak Show’s adventurous wife Liane (“Shotgun anus!”), Malin Akerman’s been the subject of countless stoner “Dude, what if…” scenarios. Now out to prove she’s more than just a pause-button fantasy, the Swedish-born, Toronto-raised beauty stars opposite Ben Stiller in The Heartbreak Kid, and has secured a role in next year’s eagerly awaited adaptation of the graphic novel The Watchmen. Akerman spoke to Complex about Smurf love, Swedish bikini teams, and threesomes.

Complex: If you could be any cartoon character who would it be?
Malin Akerman: Growing up there was Wonder Woman, but I was more a fan of The Smurfs, so I guess I’d say Smurfette. She was my favorite.
Complex: Any particular reason?
Malin Akerman: Well, you know it was her and all these boys. She was the only girl, so she was definitely getting some action [laughs].
Complex: Interesting. Speaking of action, in Harold & Kumar you were the centerpiece in a nearly consummated ménage à trois, and then in Entourage you were involved in a very consummated threesome. Any worry you might get typecast?
Malin Akerman: I hadn’t actually thought about that…
Complex: Hmmm. I really doubt I’m the first to think of it.
Malin Akerman: I guess you’re right. Once you present yourself in a certain way, there is pressure to present yourself that way again, but you just have to say no to the projects you don’t want to do.
Complex: And being blond and Swedish, I’m sure it’s pretty easy to get stereotyped.
Malin Akerman: Yeah, you see it in some of the roles you’re offered—the sorority chick or the cheerleader or the hot blonde girlfriend. As far as the Swedish part goes, it’s mostly Swedish Bikini Team remarks. Which, by the way, doesn’t exist; there’s no such thing as the Swedish Bikini Team.
Complex: Wait, you’re kidding, right?
Malin Akerman: I don’t wanna be a dream crasher, but yeah, there’s no such thing.
Complex: You just ruined my day.
Malin Akerman: I’m sorry!
